Modern Warfare 2 controversy **spoiler**

Just wondered if anyone is following the controversy surrounding Modern Warfare 2...
Note the **spoiler** warning in the subject.
A leaked video has revealed the opening sequence of the game, in which you play as an undercover agent, casually strolling into an airport with a small group of terrorists, gunning down every last civilian in the place. Innocents run for their lives as you open fire on them in a nonchalant manner. Screams and crying are heard in the background, and survivors are shown trying to carry wounded victims to safety, as the player guns them down with no remorse.
The clip spread like wildfire in the short amount of time it was around. Infinity Ward has since had it removed from YouTube and various other websites that were hosting the video, but you may still be able to find it on torrent sites.
Infinity Ward has confirmed that the sequence is indeed part of the game, and added that it is proceeded by a warning of disturbing content and an option "not to engage the gameplay".
I've seen the video, and was rather impressed that Infinity Ward had the audacity to put such a thing in a game. Sure, videogame violence is nothing new, but this scene operates on a completely different level. Obviously, the point is to make the player question his own morality and feel uncomfortable for his actions. From what I've seen, it should be disturbing enough to pull it off. Unfortunately, based on the idiots I've encountered playing the previous CoD games on Xbox Live, I have to assume that the point will be lost on the majority of gamers.

I've been reading about this and have a humongous erection for this game. I will be raping it next week hopefully.

I've heard nothing about the controversy. From the sounds of it, I can understand why it might be a bit controversial.
I love the idea that this new CoD may deal with terrorists. Nothing would please me more than punching some holes into members of Al Queda and the Taliban. Hopefully the game ends with the player assassinating Osama Bin Laden.
This is the first videogame that I have ever pre-ordered.

Did you know that they are releasing a "Prestige" edition of this game, that comes with functional night vision goggles?
I can't wait until Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 18, where they package a functional P90 in some deluxe edition.

It's all getting a bit out of hand. Driving home from work tonight, I was tuned to a radio station where the announcer was "on the scene" at EB Games, where a bunch of dorks are camped out in vans playing CoD: World at War as they await the midnight release of Modern Warfare 2. I mean, yeah, I have it pre-ordered, but I can wait until after work tomorrow to retrieve my copy. This business with camping out beside the videogame store is a wee bit excessive, I think. I mean, Jesus Christ, do you not have jobs or lives or anything along those sort of lines?
Having said that, I'm very much looking forward to playing the game myself. The next day is a holiday, so I can stay up late tomorrow night and then play it all day Wednesday, so it works out well. This being my plan, I suppose I must admit to some degree of dorkitude on my own behalf.

I never understood the impatience of people that they're compelled to stop their daily lives and literally camp for many hours in order to obtain a product that they could easily obtain if they waited an extra day or two. I probably won't get this game until Xmas and I'm not too bothered by it, honestly.

I agree. I won't be getting this until later on. I don't have the time. Shit... I barely have enough time to check-in here.

Got it last night. DC scored the last copy in the store. Amazon burned me on the pre order and I won't get it until next Wednesday apparently. Normally that wouldn't be a big deal but I have the next 5 days off and would like to play the damn thing. So looks like we'll have an extra copy to unload. Probably just return it to Wal-Mart.... unless every store in the city remains sold out in which case I'll lurk around and try to unload it on some poor sap for $100+.

Or you can sell it to me.

Say the word, droog.
I played the "controversial" level last night. I really enjoyed gunning down random civilians in the airport. I think they should make a game based on that exact premise.

Incidentally, the game has a nice bold message about your NAT settings when you log into multiplayer. *Glares @ Graham*

Well, I mentioned this to Nancy and she was forced to reveal to me that she got it already for me for Xmas. Now, to try and pry it from her early...

I see that you succeeded in that.
Curious: what does the game say about your NAT settings?
