I think it was called the Ref because the married couple in the movie are about to get a divorce and when they are tied up they still are fighting and wanting to get back at each other so Dennis Leary ends up trying to calm everyone down and in a way he becomes the Ref in their game of life.     I like the movie.

I really didn't think that the various posts and threads were so sacred, myself, though I acknowledge that I was wrong to delete my posts which were the first posts in various threads, therefore causing those threads to be entirely deleted.

It wasn't my intention to delete entire threads and other folks' posts--it just worked out that way.

I'm well aware that everyone has family problems and so forth. Without wanting to become too personal, I'll just say that I felt betrayed by people who I had thought loved me, and I wanted to disassociate myself from all humanity. Deleting all of my posts here was just a small part of that. If I hadn't tried to drown my sorrows in alcohol, I probably never would have done such a thing.

Anyway, though the real-world problem remains, I'm done being pissed off about losing administrator status here. I actually believe you made the correct decision, and I don't want that status back. Like Razor, I don't trust myself.

I can be content in the knowledge that I gave this place its name, and that I was the first to suggest its creation (sorry, Raz--I suggested it to Graham on Mess long before the three of us discussed it).

As for the whole financial aspect of it,  I merely said that Graham and I paid for it in the first place, when it first came off the ground. I'm aware that others have contributed since.

Anyway, sorry for all this dramatic bullshit. I never wanted any of this. At the time I deleted those posts, I was so pissed off and depressed I was convinced that I would never return here. I was thinking for a while there that I wouldn't be returning anywhere, or seeing anyone anymore. After a while, I became better.

I'd like to put an end to this, and put it behind us. I will contribute as a regular member of the board. I don't want any administrator status. I'd just like to be able to pop in once in a while and talk about horror movies and shit. I realize I'm able to do that right now, but I want to know that this is done.

The phone number you tried calling was probably my cell phone number, which I provided to Graham in Calgary for practical purposes--I mainly use it for work, and so, being laid off, I let it run out of minutes.

Someone should have backed up the board? Maybe someone should have used some fucking restraint and maybe a little respect for those people they call "friends". Financial investment aside, the amount of personal time invested in this place (by Kevin in particular) is staggering. I don't like having my time wasted, and I'm sure others feel the same way.

The way I see it, messageboards are a slow form of chat rooms. You say what you want to say, and then it's done. No need to maintain a recording of the proceedings.

I don't and never will understand your need to maintain a full account of everything that's been said here. Do you carry a tape recorder with you everywhere you go?

Don't be a douchebag. To tell the truth, I don't care what the fuck was in those threads aside from a few of them I was actively posting in. The fact remains that they were deleted on a whim, they simply disappeared from the board. I find that annoying. I also find your dredging up the subject ad nauseum to be tedious. I think that as far as any new members may be concerned, a board that spontaneously deletes active threads may not be exactly encouraging in terms of them posting. i.e. why bother? I know you're going to say "I don't give a fuck if anybody comes here or not" and rest assured I'm not aching for new faces around here, but I also don't want to deny anyone the pleasure of our sordid company.

Future generations may not be basking in your brilliance, but I assure you they will be in mine.
