 :cry2: :powerpuke:
I literally got sick when this was posted in the chatbox.  I went to investigate it and it seems only Rue Morgue and AVmaniacs are posting the news.  I trust 42nd Pete, but am waiting on confirmation.

This strikes me hard after have just meeting him at Cinema Wasteland.  The guy was just a marvel to be around with.

You'll be missed, man.  Now your first gonzo film, On the Prowl, will definitely never leave my collection.

Born in 1943 Jamie Gillis has been prolifically active in the adult entertainment industry as a performer, producer and director of porn since he first began working as a nude model in 1971 after graduating from Columbia University.

During those early years of porn it was easier for mainstream actors to become porn performers and to branch out into adult feature films or other adult productions. Jamie Gillis quickly ingrained himself in the adult industry becoming a mainstay in movies between 1972 and 1983, an era largely regarded as the 'Golden Age' of porn.

Well known for his acting abilities and appetite for perversion, Jamie Gillis had leading roles in most of the major adult movies of the Golden Age, including Deep Throat 2, The Private Afternoons of Pamela Mann, Through The Looking Glass, Roommates, Dracula Sucks and Insatiable 2 where he performed with Marilyn Chambers in the famous pool table bondage scene that became wildly famous. In it Gillis introduces Marilyn Chambers to bondage for the first time in her life, and the performance is so powerful that she becomes an instant sensation with BDSM fans world wide, thanks in large part to the powerful emotional performance of Jamie Gillis captured in the film.

In 1981, Jamie Gillis appeared as a U.S. Army investigator in the 'B' movie Night of the Zombies, a story of undead German soldiers and American GIs transformed by a mutagenic gas. This was one of his few non-porn acting roles. During that same year he also had a small part in the Sylvester Stallone movie 'Nighthawks' where he acted opposite Lindsay Wagner.

When porn production moved entirely to video in 1983 Jamie Gillis didn't have a chance to slow down with an abundance of roles, including a feature in New Wave Hookers with Traci Lords.

Jamie Gillis is also credited with 'discovering' Hall Of Fame pornstar Amber Lynn. The two were dating when Jamie Gillis introduced her to porn and she became a big star almost immediately. The two later parted ways.

In 1989 Jamie Gillis also performed in the very first edition of John Stagliano's 'Buttman' movies which have gone on to be one of the most legendary series in the history of adult films. That success was swiftly followed by his own original pioneering series titled On The Prowl, which established the 'gonzo' style of adult movies that are immensely popular today.

In On The Prowl Jamie Gillis would drive through LA in a limousine with a professional porn actress picking up random men from the streets and having sex with them on film. This was parodied in 1997's mainstream movie Boogie Nights as 'On The Lookout.' In Boogie Nights, Burt Reynolds played Gillis' role, though rumor has it that Jamie Gillis was not enthused with the portrayal. Around that time Jamie Gillis also played a major hand in the development of the voluminous Dirty Debutantes series which he co-produced with Ed Powers.

During the 1990's and 2000's Jamie Gillis has continued working in porn although he tends to focus more on the fetish niche, being very active in BDSM and aggressive sexual portrayals. BDSM has been a familiar part of Jamie's life since the 1970's when he was a very active off-screen player in New York's sexual sub-culture, often appearing in live sex acts where he would also read poetry and recite Shakespeare so the shows would be classified as socially redeeming and not be shut down by the police.

Although he does not deny his bisexuality, Jamie Gillis has never had sex on screen with another male, however in 1997 he appeared in his first all-gay porn film as a sadist who instructs the other members of the cast to perform sado-masochistic acts on each other.

An AVN and XRCO Hall of Fame inductee, Jamie Gillis has won many awards over the course of his prolific career and remains a popular staple in the adult industry today.

Now, Cinesploitation is stating it.

Strange that ONLY horror communities are saying this, but no adult site?  :/  Makes you wonder.

*edit*
Just refreshed.
Cultmovieforums is reporting it (another fricking horror site?).
And now Wizbangpop, an entertainment site.

Awww.. fucking finally.  AVN.

This is now confirmed.

Well glad there is some confirmation. Like you, I trust Pete but hearsay only goes so far. Normally I wouldn't care about the demise of a porn star, but I liked some of Gillis' work and from all the stories I've heard, he was an incredibly nice person.

and from all the stories I've heard, he was an incredibly nice person.

Whether in person or via chats and email, he was genuinely caring.  Tough now to picture him in all the roughies.  This makes me now believe that he wasn't just a porn legend, but a great actor as well.

42nd St. Pete did a tribute show to Jamie Gillis. He seemed like a very cool cat. I'm sorry to say I don't know much of him, nor seen any of his work outside of Water Power.
