I am deeply saddened by this news.. anime director Satoshi Kon has passed away at the age of 47.

Quote
Satoshi Kon worked on several anime classics under Katsuhiro Otomo and Mamoru Oshii, but is most well-known for his own films released by Madhouse: "Perfect Blue", "Millennium Actress", "Tokyo Godfathers" and of course "Paprika". He also made the brilliant 13-episode series "Paranoia Agent". Currently he was working on his new film "The Dreaming Machine" which was scheduled for release next year.

He was one of my favorite Japanese directors, he renewed my faith in Anime years back with Perfect Blue. I've re-watched his films many times over, and have almost all of his movies in my collection, this is a very sad day..

I wouldn't know him by name, but Perfect Blue and Paranoia Agent were stellar efforts in anime. Really captured me from start to finish. Shame he died so early. Was there a release as to what did him in?

I'm familiar with Paprika and thought it was amazing, but that's all had seen. I'm sure he will be greatly missed.

damn. it is a shame that this did not get a bit more recognition. He wasn't just a great anime director but a great director in general.

I don't think many here would dig his lighter efforts, but IMO Perfect Blue, Paprika and Paranoia Agent are essential viewing.
