Hatred is purity.

Somebody had to make this thread.

Here we have a film whose plot centres around an aging retired porn star who gets in over his head with a group of over the top pornographers who take things to the ultimate extreme.

That's really all there is to sum up the plot without getting into the gory details. As OJ said in the Recently Watched thread this is certainly not a film for everyone. In fact it's probably not a film for most tastes. It's beyond extreme and seemingly covers every taboo that hasn't really been done to death already in genre films. A Serbian Film is destined to become one of those films talked about in hushed tones years from now and sought out by the curious, much like Salo or Nekromantik were years ago (at least before you could find virtually anything via the internet). Very stong stuff indeed.

Shock value aside, the film itself is actually very well done and boasts a very dark serious tone thoughout. This is a film destined to be reviled for years to come. I think genre fans should really take the opportunity to watch this while it's still new. This is film history in the making, at least as far as obscure underground films go. You may like it,  - most will hate it - but it needs to be seen.

I watched it drunk, didn't seem all that disturbing. Then watched it again sober and still felt the same. But went back and watched the de-cap fuck a few more times, fucking beautiful.

I hear there's another Serbian Film from 2009 called The Life & Death of a Porno Gang which has practically the same premise and just as gruesome.

Does anybody have an invite for Demonoid? If your guy's vague descriptions of various scenes in the movie are as gruesome as I think, then I must see this. Much love to you all.

Oi! Possible Spoilers Ahead!

As a shock movie Srpski Film is pretty meh but as movie in general it was pretty good, definitely a chart topper for modern exploitation.

When I say the movie is "pretty meh" it's because I thought the 'shock' aspects of it became quite silly at times, most notably the skull fucking bit, or in general it was predictable. Like most shock titles when you watch them, if you stop and think "Alright, if I wanted to do something that was shocking what would I do here?" So the reveal in the end with the family and the brother wasn't too much of shocker, even though the scene is still quite vile.

With that being said, as a standard movie though it was really good a lot better than one would expect from a title like this. It's a great tale of madness of a character who's world is destroyed with sex. I've heard people compare this movie to a number of different shock films but I think the one I find it most comparable to is Last House on Dead End Street. In fact it almost felt like a reflection of that movie but where Last House was about the rise and fall of the maker, Srpski is about the rise and fall of the star. The movie blends the right amount of beauty with its cinematography with brutal and unrelenting violence to the point that it kind tears at you; you want to look away but you can't.

The movie has a lot to offer a viewer other than being just a mere shocking thrill ride, that's why I think those who watch it who are ultimately looking just to be grossed out shouldn't bother. Because I have a feeling this movie is going to be used as a "who's got the bigger dick" contest and make claims like, "it shocked my friends but it didn't bother me" or "that part made me laugh."

As long as people are willing to treat it like any other exploitive film then they will get the most out of the movie's story of a man who goes on a downward spiral and is destroyed by the one thing that made him who he is and gave him the life that he had. As well as being able to appreciate the overall production value and especially the wonderful cinematography.

That's just my take on it though. While I did enjoy it and I thought the movie was well made I really don't see myself going back for repeated viewings since it's the kind of movie where it really isn't necessary.

Pretty much. I'm not sure if a lot of the cartoonish set-pieces were there to bring the viewer back a touch and ground them from the chaos...such as the skull fucking scene (which did garner a healthy laugh from me in a much needed time, considering what just happened to Milos and his son), or the exaggerated characterization of Vukmir (I'm surprised he wasn't petting a cat and twirling his mustache whenever he made an appearance).
Also, I must note probably the most unconvincing neck-breaking scene in recent history here...when the bald brute snaps the neck of the kid who is beating up on Milos, another very cheesy moment in a very dire time. Intentional? Who knows...I'm not sure I will fawn over this enough to know of the director's intentions.
This method was employed with Last House on the Left with the Keystone Cops bumbling around in between the scenes with Krug and the gang. Pulls everyone back for a moment and assures you it's alright.

uh huh, much better than I was expecting as far as story and character empathy is concerned. This just isn't your standard throwaway neo-spoliter. It goes step by step very briskly, and suddenly we're thrown into a maddening world of smut and snuff--an uncontrolled environment. And the events lead to the
I liked it a lot, but key scenes (which will be obvious to those who've seen it), Milos' racing mind with the pre-teen girl who makes very odd and uncomfortable appearances throughout...and just the overall atmosphere and the completely raw nature of sex it portrayed, well, it got to me...cartoonery aside, I don't feel so internally rotten often these days after the cinema. So, their job is done. Bravo! And, of course, one last twist of the gut, the final line of the movie: "Start with the little one". Gah!

Uhh, A Serbian Film was a comedy right? I mean, it was so over the top it was funny. I guess we're just both so desensitized, but honestly there wasn't anything I haven't seen before. It wasn't very shocking, and I didn't know anything about it going in. It was also very predictable.

Glad to see others who didn't think it was as shocking as people say. Although I still think it was a good movie.
