a little something i did for xploited magazine.

The tagline on the box says “one of the nastiest films ever made” and I’m inclined to agree that August Underground is a sadistic trip into madness that seizes the viewer and doesn’t let go until the credits roll. After hearing a little about the film and it’s reputation my interest was peaked as im always searching for the new sick and gross out films to further desensitize myself so this seemed right up my alley and I was surely not disappointed.
For anyone who isn’t familiar with the movie it plays out very much like a pseudo snuff film that is incredibly realistic and could easily pass off as a legit snuff film. In fact for those who own this movie I dare you to queue this up after the opening credits and sit someone down and press play they will think it’s a real snuff film guaranteed. This is the first in a set of 3 of the nastiest and sickest movies I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching. With the second installments being August Underground Mordom and Penance. The gore effects are hyper realistic and the acting for the style of film is gritty, rough around the edges and while some may say bad I think it certainly add’s to the raw grisly power of the film
The film follows the murderous and torture filled adventures of 2 men as they get into fights, beating hitchhiking ladies to death, torturing men and women in a makeshift basement of horrors all while smiling and laughing. Like 2 boys who just saw their first set of boobies. There’s severed limbs, buckets full of human excrement, and a dungeon of blood soaked torture that’d put any Eli Roth film to shame. The movie’s are low budget but it works. It gives the film a certain realism that big budget shockers just can’t seem to match. Don’t get me wrong this movie is very rough around the edges but what it shows me is potential and promise. In a world of seemingly never ending shitty low budget indie movies this came out and rose to the surface rising amongst dozens of other “sickest films ever made”
This is also the very first venture for the director (Fred Vogel) and job well done sir! The movie is certainly not for everyone but if you’re wanting to dive into a bit of madness and experience something you’ve probably never seen before I recommend taking a trip in the august underground just be forewarned that a trip there might change you for good.

I've seen all three August Underground films. The second is by far the nastiest of the trio (particularly the ending).

They're definitely an interesting viewing experience, although The Redsin Tower is a much better Toetag offering, in my opinion.

I agree, out of everything TTP has done I like Redsin Tower the best. You can't go wrong with the AU movies if you want to explore movies that are extremely unpleasant and down right brutal.

With that being said, I've grown tired of TTP. It seems they can't get over this hump of snuff-themed films as they have made only one so far that doesn't. I'll reserved final judgment on the company after Sella Turcica, but I'm honestly not holding my breath for anything spectacular.

I like Toetag's selection. Murder Collection wasn't too great, but I agree Redsin Tower was amazing. But the AU trilogy are the stand outs for me. I'm looking forward to Sella Turcica as well.

I wasn't too impressed with Redsin Tower but I think I need to give it another viewing. Love the AU series and haven't even opened my Murder Collection DVD.

Exactly what they were trying to avoid. Oh, the irony. lol

I didn't think much of Murder Collection or Maskhead, but I'm hoping Sella Turcica will be an improvement on them both. It's up for pre-order from Toetag from July 4th.

I like Redsin Tower, the ending is great actually (up to that point it's a pretty standard movie though). Murder Collection has some great effects by Jerami Cruise, but it wasn't that impressive to me. Maskhead I wasn't a big fan of, it made me think "was that it?", even though the end scene is brutal and all that, it didn't satisfy.

My top Toetag list goes exactly in the order they made them:
AU
AUM
AUP
Redsin
MC
Maskhead

I've seen most of two of the AU films... but couldn't get into either of them.  I really liked the effects... but struggled with the constant shouting, screaming, etc.   And I can't remember which two I seen.

I watched Redsin Tower and REALLY liked the female possession scene... and that was it.  I thought the acting was crap and really took away from the realistic feel.  Also, I remember being a bit confused about the storyline.

I've seen all three of the AU films and didn't like them. The effects were certainly realistic but the actors just annoyed the hell out of me. Haven't seen Redsin Tower yet, I'll give that a watch some time.

I have all three but am still working my way through part 2--I have to be in a certain mood to watch these. Sicker than part 1, huh? Damn! I wouldn't have believed it. Then again...I can.

This.  Redsin Tower's pretty good.  Annoying characters are still present, but it's enjoyable.

Yes, part two goes to all sorts of lovely extremes like you wouldn't imagine. And prey tell, what kinda mood do you need to be in to give AU a viddy? A "I want to butt out cigarettes into the eyes of infants" kinda mood?
