I'm not anticipating much of a response here--if any! Does anyone here give the ole audio book a spin now and again? I'm getting burnt out on movie podcasts during work, and am looking to venture into the realm of audio books. Although from what little experience I have with audio books, I do find them harder to concentrate upon than a book itself because I am not 100% consciously listening to it as I work...and find myself having to re-listen to it in full to fill in the gaps.
Still, any recommendations are appreciated.

I've only done audio books once, and it was on a long drive from Phoenix to LA. It was confusing as hell, and seemed to take so much concentration! And that was on a book I've read a hundred times before... :P They aren't for me. I'm not much of an audio learner unless it's in a movie/tv format. I've always done better by reading myself. Good luck to you though. I might start it up while I knit. My friend suggested I try it since she knits and listens to audio books all the time. I heard a lot of truck drivers use them as well.

I've never tried, but I suppose if I could listen to my Zune at work all day I'd give it a go.

Query: If one listens to an audio book that they haven't experienced before, is it considered having read the book? lol

That is the question.

They had a pretty big debate on the Stern show awhile back about this. Howard's producer claimed that he could say he read the book even though he just listened to the audio-book, and Howard completely disagreed. The debate went on for an hour and nothing was resolved. I suppose I'd be resigned and simply say "I've listened to it" as opposed to "I've read it". Now, to start the thread "Recently Listened to Books".

I highly recommend podiobooks (books done as a podcast) from Mark Yoshimoto Nemcoff (http://markyoshimotonemcoff.com/wordsushi/audiobooks.html or http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/audiobooks-by-myn/id205183634), especially the wonderfully written Diary of a Madman.

I also recommend the site http://www.podiobooks.com. It's full of free podiobooks in all types of genres. Hope that helps!

That can definitely help. I need the one and only voice in my head to shut the fuck up by any means necessary.
