Well, due to spending far too much money during the wedding, I'm not going to be attending the Swans show in Toronto.
I expect a full set-list and a detailed account from you Adam. And a picture with you and Gira, with him holding a splatterday.com sign.

Everything is in place, we got the flight booked, tickets in hand, and a hotel for the night of the show..

Does anyone here have some recommendations of where I should go when I am there, I got the obvious answers already, but I was wondering if anyone knew about used book stores, or good place to get DVDs..

That is if anyone here has been to TO before...

I always wanted to check out Suspect Video. I dunno if it's still there though. Apparently the whole block burned down.

If I recall correctly, since the fire, they have relocated.

So.. out of nowhere the new album has been released. Pleasant surprise for me as well, as I was unaware that my previous order and donation to get the I am no insane disc also entitles me to the Special Edition X2 CD release seen here.

Here is more info on the CD with one completed track to sample.

on a shitty note reading the notes it almost appears as though Devanda Banhart (or however you spell it) is taking over the roll of Jarboe (singing a few of the tracks on the album).

This is disappointing to me as I really don't like him, but we will wait and see, it is not his project and music so I hope it does not ruin two of the 8 tracks on the album.

Jarboe in the past has done her share of ruining tracks as well. It's all part of being a SWANS fan.

Thanks! I bought the digipack. Although I am disappointed from the 30 second previews of the songs you posted that it sounds identical to Angels of Light. I love AoL of course, but I was expecting something much more full-bodied with this album...a distinction at least.

Maybe  disc 2 of the super special edition will be more SWANS-esque...

We arrived at the venue at about1 10:00, with the opening act Baby Dee coming on an hour later. I had heard Baby Dee before and was not impressed, and seeing him live did not rally change my opinion.

After Baby Dee we were treated to about 10 to 20 minutes of just noise blaring through the speakers. this was followed by one of the members of Swans playing the chimes along with the noise for another 10 to 20 minutes. Then as the band took the stage and started to play the volume of the performance got sickening, blasts of air were hitting my face from the speakers, and I could feel my entire body vibrating with the music. What I heard throughout the concert could not possibly be captured on CD, I felt like I was part of something important and special, and tears were welling up in my eyes.

As the concert progressed, I began to lose myself in the music, songs were almost always started with or ended with a cacophony of guitar, drums, various other percussion instruments and electronics, but somehow in the chaos there was great beauty..

I am a fan of Gira's later work in Swans, and though I am familiar with all of Swans, I don't really know the lyrics or can recall titles of the early work, which is the majority of what was played, with a couple songs from the new release, which kind of stuck out in their simplicity. Even though I was not familiar with the tracks it did not hinder my enjoyment of the show.

Gira was a stolid figure on stage before each song, and said very little. When he played though he came to life, you could see him chanting to himself, eyes closed, during moments when every member was playing frantically. He also rubbed his penis as he sang about it getting hard.

After the show I picked up a shirt, as well as a signed poster with the date and venue worked into the artwork, and as soon as I left the venue noticed my almost complete loss of hearing. Katy and I were walking down the street to get back to the hotel yelling at each other about how fucking great the show was. It took me two full days to recover my hearing.

So, it was a pretty mediocre concert then?

Glad it was well worth the effort and expense for you. As it obviously wouldn't be any other way. And, of course, of the few Swans nerds around here, at least one of us got a chance to see them in their twilight years. Who knows if they will ever venture back to Canada?
I'm surprised they played mostly older stuff. I'm assuming by "early work" you mean pre-Children of God. You need to study Filth, Cop, Greed, and Holy Money for their next tour to sharpen up a bit on those tunes.
Did the band do a meet and greet afterwards? Or was the signed poster you bought pre-signed?

Anyway, you know I'm terribly envious, but given the circumstances I was unable to attend.
