I will be double dipping on this, if anything, just for that amazing artwork.

Now if only Arrow released it in a hardbox case...

Antichrist is coming soon. From Criterion of all companies. Cheap too ($23).

Quote
Antichrist DVD (Criterion) (NTSC Region 1)

SYNOPSIS: Lars von Trier shook up the film world when he premiered Antichrist at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. In this graphic psychodrama, a grief-stricken man and woman—a searing Willem Dafoe and Cannes best actress Charlotte Gainsbourg—retreat to a cabin deep in the woods after the accidental death of their infant son, only to find terror and violence at the hands of nature and, ultimately, each other. But this most confrontational work yet from one of contemporary cinema’s most controversial artists is no mere provocation. It is a visually sublime, emotionally ravaging journey to the darkest corners of the possessed human mind; a disturbing battle of the sexes that pits rational psychology against age-old superstition; and a profoundly effective horror film.

# New, restored high-definition digital transfer, approved by director Lars von Trier and supervised by director of photography Anthony Dod Mantle
# Audio commentary by von Trier and professor Murray Smith
# Video interviews with von Trier and actors Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg
# A collection of video pieces delving into the production of Antichrist, including interviews with von Trier and key members of his filmmaking team as well as behind-the-scenes footage
# Chaos Reigns at the Cannes Film Festival 2009, a documentary on the film’s world premiere, plus press interviews with Dafoe and Gainsbourg
# Three theatrical trailers
# PLUS: A booklet featuring an essay by film scholar Ian Christie

Jesus that cover for Jacob's Ladder is embarrassing. But, you know, Lion's Gate and all. Attempting to fool the mouthbreathers that it's a brand-new movie.
And I'm surprised to see My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done is already on the verge of release. I thought it was going to do theatres first...at least the arthouse. I'll have to rent that one.
And, of course, I'll have to buy that Dolemite collection somewhere down the line. Exterminators of the Year 3000 also looks terribly incredible. Italian post-apocalyptic...that I haven't even heard of! Sign me up.

Agreed.

Why hire some second-rate twat with a minimalistic understanding of photoshop to produce something so embarrassingly awful that it drives me to distance myself from the picture (not really).  I really don't understand the reasoning behind it. I mean, it's not like the original poster-art is dated. It would be infinitely more effective to the human-eye.

Alien Autopsy (Warner)

This was actually a pretty good comedy.  At the very end, the real guys bicker like two queers.  Funny stuff.

Jesus that cover for Jacob's Ladder is embarrassing.

Looks a bit... beh.  Horrible expression to be putting on the cover.  Should have stuck with the original stairwell image.

SPIRITS OF THE DEAD (Histoires extraordinaires)

Released: on Blu ray: October 11 2010

Starring: Brigitte Bardot, Alain Delon, Jane Fonda, Terence Stamp
Directed by: Federico Fellini, Louis Malle, Roger Vadim
Rating: 18
Duration: 121 mins

Overview: Federico Fellini, Louis Malle and Roger Vadim adapt works by macabre author Edgar Allan Poe in the anthology film Spirits of the Dead [Histoires extraordinaires]. Dealing with tormented characters experiencing a personal hell, filled with angst and delirium, Spirits of the Dead was a ground-breaking departure for the adaption of Poe in cinema.

Vadim directs Jane Fonda as Countess Metzengerstein, a debauched heiress leading a life Caligula would commend. The Countess becomes tormented by the denial of her incestuous desire for her cousin Baron Berlifitzing (fittingly played by her brother Peter Fonda). Malle directs Alain Delon as William Wilson, an Austrian Solider who is haunted by his doppelgänger, tormenting him at times in his life where he is at his most cruel and sadistic. Fellini’s famed segment sees Terence Stamp as a Toby Dammit, an actor arriving in Rome to meet the producers of his new film, the first Catholic Western. Drugged and drunk, Dammit is disturbed by the haunting image of the devil, which like Mario Bava’s Kill, Baby... Kill! and Bunuel’s Simon of the Desert, is actually a young girl, ominously bouncing a ball.

Spirits of the Dead is presented in a brand new transfer from a new High Definition restoration of the original film negative. Reinstating Terence Stamp’s superb performance with his original English audio as well as alternate English audio options for Metzengerstein and William Wilson.

Special Features:
- Brand new transfer of Spirits of the Dead from a new HD restoration of the original negative

- Alternative English audio for Metzengerstein and William Wilson, multi-lingual English and Italian audio for Toby Dammit as well the French dubbed version

- Brand new English subtitle translation on all versions

- Features rare Vincent Price voice over narration used for the US theatrical version

- 60 page booklet featuring Edgar Allan Poe’s original short stories Metzengerstein, William Wilson and Never Bet the Devil Your Head (Toby Dammit)

- ‘Spirits of the Dead Revisited’ essay by critic and author Tim Lucas

- ‘Literature and Cinema’ essay by scholar and author Peter Bondanella on Toby Dammit

- Re-prints of original lobby cards and posters

REGION 0: This Blu ray DVD will play everywhere !
