Given the fact that remakes are being announced on a daily basis at this point, I'm devoting this thread to the announcement of remakes (or reimaginings if you choose the euphemistic path).

Prepare to groan each and everytime you choose to come into this festering pit of banality!

FROM BEYOND

SCI-FI / xx min / PRE-PRODUCTION

Detective Davis Tillinghast is a modern day Sherlock Holmes, using his keen intellect and powers of deduction to solve the cases no one else can ... until now. A series of bizarre and seemingly impossible mutilations have him stumped, the only tenuous clue leading back to the laboratory of his estanged brother Crawford, a crazed genius obsessed with inter-dimensional physics. Crawford has invented an instrument that hyper-stimulates the pineal gland of the brain, making visible the many thousands of parallel universes that occupy our space/time continuum. But unbeknownst to him this machine is also empowering creatures from other realities, giving them the ability to "drift" - travel between dimensions. Davis discovers that a "drifter" has been causing the random mutilations and sets out to destroy his brother's machine. In the process, Davis is exposed to a vast amount of the machine's energy, turning him too into a drifter.

Poltergeist

Old news (a year of speculation)... but it looks like it's confirmed.

Judging from that picture, it appears it will go beyond the PG rating of Spielberg's version...errr---I mean Hooper's of course  ::)

Michael Bay to produce new Friday The 13th sequel.

"After the supposed death of her only son at a summer camp, a mother kills off the negligent camp employees one by one. Years after her death at the hands of the last remaining employees, her "dead" son returns to the camp. After he learns of her death, he vows to continue her bloody work."

Sounds more like a much needed remake. Glad I don't give two fucks about the series otherwise I'd be frothing and screaming in front of this very computer.

I didn't think the first one was all that horrible.  The second and third are different stories mind you.

One of my top films, The Eye.

I knew a remake was in the works for years (thanks, Tom Cruise), and by viewing this trailer, it looks almost like a frame-by-frame remake.

Now they've remade Funny Games. Never had the opportunity to viddy the original, but now I'm sure it'll fade into further obscurity.

Death Race 3000 appears to be shaping up to be another mockery of the original:

As part of Universal Pictures 2008 preview we've been supplied with the first official still for Paul W.S. Anderson's Death Race remake, which arrives in theaters September 26. The film stars Jason Statham, Tyrese Gibson, Joan Allen, John Fallon, Ian McShane, Natalie Martinez, Max Ryan, Jason Clarke and Fred Koehler. Read on for your first look at the film and watch this spot for a report from the set in 2008.

Well, perhaps this isn't such a bad idea:

CONFIRMED: Peter Berg Will Direct ‘Dune,’ Talking With Tom Cruise About ‘Edwin A. Salt’
16 Comments  |  Published by Josh Horowitz on Friday, December 21, 2007 at 4:59 pm.

Ladies and gentlemen, the next huge sci-fi franchise has a director. During an interview with “The Kingdom” director Peter Berg, he confirmed the rumor that “Dune” is coming and that he’s the one that will helm it. Calling the plans for him to direct “a done deal,” Berg told me that “if it weren’t for the writer’s strike, we’d be in it right now.”

Berg says that while there’s no script yet, they have a list of writers they plan to go out to once the strike settles. The helmer called himself “a huge fan of the book” and when asked about the scale of the film, he simply replied, “big big big.”

As any fan of the Frank Herbert classic knows, “Dune” received the big screen treatment once before in a divisive David Lynch film. Berg said that while he’s “a big fan of Lynch,” he believes “that interpretation has left the door wide open for a remake.”

Meanwhile, Berg also confirmed that even before “Dune,” he’s likely to direct Tom Cruise in his next film. Berg called the script about a CIA agent on the run after being accused of being a spy “great” and “a great role for Tom.”

Berg described the story as an “action thriller” and that “the audience is trying to figure out whether this character is good or bad. He’s claiming one thing and we’re not sure up until the very end.”

When asked if he’s met with Cruise himself yet, Berg said “we’ve been talking.”

This comes as a complete surprise:

Quote
First Look Home Entertainment will release the remake of Day of the Dead straight to DVD on April 8th, according to Amazon. Despite rumors of a theatrical release, this seems to confirm that the film is as bad as we all feared. The remake of the George Romero’s 1985 undead movie was directed by Steve Miner (Halloween: H20) off a script by Jeffrey Reddick (Final Destination). You can take a look at the DVD art at UHM. From this cover (higher quality coming soon), it looks like it would be a fun, gross zombie flick. Unfortunately, I think it’s merely setting up false hope. The DVD will reportedly include a commentary track, alternate ending, and trailer.
