This comes as a complete surprise:

Looks like too much fun.  Humorous.
Well I watch?  Of course, despite DotD being the best in the lot.

Quentin Tarantino's Britney 'porn'

Quentin Tarantino wants Britney Spears to play a "raunchy" killer in a remake of soft-porn classic 'Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!'.

(BANG) -

Quentin Tarantino wants Britney Spears to play a "raunchy" killer in a remake of soft-porn classic 'Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!'.

The controversial director is desperate to cast the troubled singer in a "sexier" version of the 1965 movie, alongside Eva Mendes and reality TV star Kim Kardashian.

Quentin said: "I love the film - what's better than a movie which has three strippers going on a killing spree in the desert?

"It would be great to do a remake, and casting would be easy. Top of my hit list would be Kim Kardashian and Eva Mendes. And you know what, I think Britney Spears could really work in this film. I'd love to get her involved."

It would not be Britney's first acting role. In 2002, she starred as aspiring singer Lucy Wagner in teen movie 'Crossroads'.

Tarantino has developed a reputation for helping star names resurrect their careers.

John Travolta credits his role as hitman Vincent Vega in 1994 movie 'Pulp Fiction' with making him "cool again", while Daryl Hannah's ailing Hollywood career was rejuvenated by her role in 2003's 'Kill Bill'.

The original 'Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!' was directed by the late Russ Meyer, who is famous for his outlandish 'sexploitation' movies which include 'Supervixens' and 'Erotica'.

Dimension Delays Hellraiser Remake Over Screenplay Concerns

Quote from: Really Scary dot com
Dimension has delayed the release of their Hellraiser remake until 2009 and according to Bloody Disgusting, the reason for the delay is they weren't completely happy with Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury's screenplay and have decided to take the film to other writers. The French duo is still attached to helm the pic.

This iteration of Day of the Dead was supposed to be a true to form remake of Romero's original and a continuation of the Dawn of the Dead remake. It's been in post-production hell for the last year and is going to skip the theatre circuit altogether due to the studio heads not being pleased with the overall product so they don't want to dump money into it for advertising and such to run it in the theatres.

Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form have been set by New Line to re-launch Freddy Krueger, the iconic psycho who haunts the subconscious dreams of teenagers and kills them in their sleep, reports Variety.

The trio will create a new franchise based on A Nightmare on Elm Street, the 1984 Wes Craven film. Originally played by Robert Englund, Krueger haunted nine films and two TV series.

The deal comes as Bay, Fuller and Form ready for an April start for Friday the 13th, a New Line re-launch of another iconic baddie, Jason Voorhees. Marcus Nispel will direct a script by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (Freddy vs. Jason).

Both franchises will be given a complete overhaul, something that Platinum Dunes provided in the Nispel-directed The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. New Line won't hire a writer on "Nightmare" until the writers strike ends.

Michael Bay? Sweet. At least we know there won't be any exclusion of explosions every 2 minutes.

Looks exciting:

** THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT remake: Fangoria Radio spoke to genre veteran Wes Craven not long ago, and the filmmaker gave them an update on his LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT remake, which he revealed Rogue Pictures will begin shooting in South Africa (recent home to his production of THE BREED, as well as Neil Marshall’s Rogue project DOOMSDAY) in January. Craven noted that Greek director Dennis (HARDCORE) Illiadis is “very talented,” and when asked why his recent spate of remakes and sequels to remakes (!) have utilized foreign-born directors like THE HILLS HAVE EYES’ Alexandre Aja, THE HILLS HAVE EYES II’s Martin Weisz and now LAST HOUSE’s Illiadis, he cited budgetary concerns: “They are not DGA directors, so we don’t have to make the films under DGA guidelines. Productions become more expensive when you have to add on assistant directors, 2nd assistant directors, etc.”

In terms of directorial gigs, Craven is mulling an offer to helm an episode of Mick Garris’ FEAR ITSELF (currently in jeopardy because of the writers’ strike) and has also written an untitled thriller that he wants to direct, which Craven calls “very unusual and personal. It’s the first movie that I will direct that I’ve also written since [1994’s] NEW NIGHTMARE.” (thanks to Fangoria.com)

We were just e-mailed the casting breakdown for Rogue Pictures' Last House on the Left remake, which begins shooting March 10 in Cape Town, South Africa. In addition to the synopsis and breakdown we learned that the screenplay was written by Mark Haslett, Adam Alleca and Carl Ellsworth for Dennis Iliadis to direct. Read on for all for everything and cross your fingers that this doesn't just turn into another muddy remake.

SYNOPSIS: John & Emma Collingwood are on vacation at their lakeshore house when, by a bizarre twist of fate, they give shelter to the sociopaths who have just assaulted and nearly killed their daughter. Upon discovering the truth, they exact a chilling revenge on her attackers...

BREAKDOWN:

[DR. JOHN COLLINGWOOD] 45, father of Mari and husband of Emma Collingwood. Overworked, and having recently lost a son, John agrees to take time off with his family at their lakefront Summer home. After offering both shelter and medical care to four stranded travelers (Krug, Justin, Sadie and Francis) John finds his daughter seriously wounded and struggling for life, then realizes his houseguests were the ones who assaulted and left her for dead. Cut off from help, John has to find the inner power to exact an equally brutal revenge on his daughter's attackers...LEAD (Cool

[MARI COLLINGWOOD] 17-18, daughter of John and Emma Collingwood - a natural beauty, she's an expert swimmer with a tireless work ethic and a bright, lively nature. Still mourning her brother's death, Mari reluctantly accompanies her parents to their vacation house, an isolated lakefront house filled with difficult memories. While visiting her childhood friend Paige, the two girls fall into the clutches of three deadly criminals: Krug, Sadie and Francis. Mari is raped by Krug, and is then shot while attempting to escape. Barely alive, she manages to make it back home, only to realize her murderous kidnappers are "guests" in her parents' house... LEAD (6) PLEASE SUBMIT 18 (OR EMANCIPATED) TO PLAY YOUNGER.

[EMMA COLLINGWOOD] 41, confident, strong and very attractive, she's a determined woman still recovering from the shock of her son's death. Intent on recapturing her family's happiness via a trip to their lake house, Emma faces her worst nightmare upon discovering that the people her and husband, John Collingwood, gave shelter to had earlier that day assaulted and nearly killed their daughter Mari. Forced to fight for her family's survival, Emma proves to be a surprisingly ferocious enemy... LEAD (7)

[KRUG] Early 30s, a handsome, charismatic man with hard features and a heart of stone - Krug's a ruthless sociopath on the lam after a prison escape that left two cops dead in its wake. Intent on going into hiding as quickly as possible, Krug stops to pick up his teenage son Justin, only to find him with two young girls who must now be disposed of. Partnered with Sadie and Francis - Krug kills Paige, then rapes Mari Collingwood and shoots her, leaving her for dead. Charming his way into John and Emma Collingwood's house during a storm, Krug's clueless they're Mari's parents, and that they're about to stage their own revenge... LEAD (1)

[SADIE] 20ish, a sadistic beauty, Sadie is Krug's lover and twisted surrogate mother to his son Justin. Sadie busts Krug out of a prison transport van (with the maximum possible loss of life) but is afterward conflicted as to whether or not Justin's teenage friends Paige and Mari need to be eliminated. Initially kind to the girls, Sadie turns vicious when she's targeted in their desperate attempt to escape. Later, after being given refuge in the Collingwood's guest-house, the tables are turned, with Mari's parents intent on her destruction and Sadie finding herself desperate to survive... LEAD (4)

[JUSTIN] 15 (18 to play younger), the darkly innocent son of Krug who considers him a weak-willed disappointment. In fact, he's a normal, ethical kid horrified by his father and his murderous entourage. When Justin strikes up conversation with Mari and Paige, he exposes them to his fugitive father, inadvertently getting one killed - the other attacked and left for dead. Terrified of Krug but determined to do the right thing, Justin ultimately finds it within himself to help the Collingwoods survive their encounter with his lethal father... LEAD (22) PLEASE SUBMIT 18 (OR EMANCIPATED) TO PLAY YOUNGER.

[FRANCIS] Early 30s, Krug's brother, Francis is a street smart sociopath, an eager-to-please wing-man who breaks Krug out, then goes on the run with him and Sadie. He's unpredictably violent. Overshadowed by his brother's charisma, he's desperate to impress. Francis bites off more than he can chew when he tries to assault Emma Collingwood, facing a dauntless woman with brutal vengeance on her mind...LEAD (4)

[PAIGE] 17 (18 to play younger), a gorgeous hell-raiser who always speaks her mind, Paige works at the resort town's ice cream parlor. Childhood friends, Paige and Mari have a history of getting into trouble together - years later, Paige hasn't changed a bit. Shutting up shop to smoke dope with Justin, Paige winds up trapped (along with Mari) when Krug arrives - and realizes she's scheduled to be his next victim. A fighter who never gives up, Paige fights for her life to the very end...LEAD (1Cool PLEASE SUBMIT 18 (OR EMANCIPATED) TO PLAY YOUNGER.

Also, get ready to laugh at the idea that the film is going to be more brutal than the original, only the daughter won't be raped or killed - and the last house on the left is on the lake... what?! I'm confused.

** THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT remake: Variety reports that Martha MacIsaac, Riki Lindhome, Garret Dillahunt and Rhys Coiro will star in the remake of Wes Craven's LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT that rolls March 24 for Rogue Pictures. MacIsaac, who played Michael Cera's girlfriend in SUPERBAD, and Lindhome, who was in the Craven-co-scripted PULSE update, play a pair of teen girls who are viciously attacked by Krug (Dillahunt, currently on screens as Wendell in NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN) and his gang of miscreants. In a sign that this redux is being toned down somewhat from Craven's original, the trade notes that one girl's parents wind up unwittingly giving shelter to the baddies who have "nearly" killed their daughter. Craven, his Midnight Pictures partner Marianne Maddalena and his original producer Sean S. Cunningham serve as producers on the new LAST HOUSE, which the trade says will be "more realistic" than the earlier film. Dennis Iliadis will direct from a script by Adam Alleca on locations in... South Africa. (thanks to Fangoria.com)

I forgot to mention this.

Thank you, Hollywood.  We need more foreign remakes (thanks to Tom Cruise and Sam Raimi).

EXCL: The Crazies Remake - Not Dead Yet!

Production outfit Penn Station is taking measures to keep The Crazies remake afloat.

An industry source tells us Penn producers Dean Georgaris and Michael Aguilar (Damn Nation) brought Ray Wright on board (presumably pre-strike) to work on the script. Wright's credits include Pulse and this year's Case 39, directed by Christian Alvart and starring Renee Zellweger. It's unclear if the project still resides at Paramount.

The Crazies, an update of George Romero's 1973 homeland viral terror flick, was originally set up as a directing vehicle for Session 9's Brad Anderson. It would reunite him with The Machinist scribe Scott Kosar who penned a draft.

In the original, a small Pennsylvania town and its residents are accidentally exposed to a biological weapon. The side effect: Insanity. As the Army moves in to quarantine the town, a pair of firefighters attempt to evade soldiers, the "crazies" and infection.

*GOREzone*

** PIRANHA remake: Alexandre Aja's next horror film, a remake of Joe Dante's PIRANHA , is going to be presented in 3-D! Dimension Films has set a release date of July 24, 2009. Directed by Aja and co-penned by Josh Stolberg, the plot crunch floating around now goes like this: A tremor causes Arizona's Lake Havasu floor to open, setting free scores of prehistoric piranhas. (thanks to ShockTillYouDrop.com)

This thread is destined to be one of the largest threads around here in no time. It really puts it in perspective how out of control this remake craze is. Granted, Aja is behind this one and he is 2/2 for me so I'll give this one a chance.

If I recall correctly, the original wasn't much to talk about outside of the ending. Looks like they've run out of classics to remake for the time-being.
